Facebook CEO, Mark Zukerberg is to review its policy because of President Donald Trump’s post on Facebook which describes the protesters as “THUGS” over George Floyd’s death.

Facebook did not check Trump’s post as Twitter did and for that reason, the company’s largest platform is under fire as its workers resign over the post of the US President which is condemning the protest.

Trump posted on Twitter, saying “when the looting starts, the shooting starts” which prompted Twitter to take an action by placing a “public interest notice” on the comments it said was “glorifying violence”.

Upon the resignation which was tendered by the Facebook workforce, the company CEO, Mark Zuckerberg through his Facebook page, announced that the company would review its policies to avoid what happened with the US President.

According to Mark, he said “real pain expressed by members of our community. I also want to acknowledge that the decision I made last week has left many of you angry, disappointed and hurt”.

Adding that; the company “will review our policies allowing discussion and threats of state use of force to see if there are any amendments we should adopt. There are two specific situations under this policy that we’re going to review. The first is around instances of excessive use of police or state force”.

Mark explained that the decision to review the policies will for sure affect the policies guiding voter suppression to make sure the realities of voting in the midst of a pandemic is taking into account.

He said any form of content on its platforms that glorifies an act of violence will be taken down on its platform and not let people continue seeing it behind a flag, and that there is no exception to this policy for politicians or newsworthiness, as everyone has equal status on the platforms.

Zuckerberg said Facebook will work on establishing a clearer and more transparent decision-making process.

“More broadly, we’re going to review whether we need to change anything structurally to make sure the right groups and voices are at the table – not only when decisions affecting a certain group are being made, but when other decisions that may set precedents are being made as well”.
