Amazon Cloud Gaming Service ‘Luna’ Launched

During the Amazon event, the company finally took wraps off its cloud gaming service called ‘Luna’. Luna is Amazon’s very own cloud gaming platform. A number of other big players are already having similar Cloud Gaming platforms like the Nvidia GeForce Now, Google Stadia, Microsoft Project xCloud, and more. And finally, Amazon joins the league, too.

Amazon Cloud Gaming platform will be powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deliver high-quality gaming experience. There are even games that you can play in 4K at 60 fps as well. The Luna+ channel already has support for 100 games, more to come in the future.

The early access is only limited to the US and people from other parts of the globe will have to wait to use. Luna is made available for an introductory price of $5.99/month. Initially, it is available for PC, macOS, FireTV, iPad, and iPhone. Amazon did not officially announce the same for Android yet, but support for Android will come in the coming months.

Control, GRID, Resident Evil 7, etc are few big names in the launch title for Luna. Amazon will also partner with Ubisoft to bring games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Far Cry 6 as well.

What’s more interesting is the Luna Controller that could be used to play games on the Luna platform. It is priced at $49.99. Users could use both Bluetooth Controllers as well as KBM setups.

“Luna Controller is Alexa-enabled and connects directly to the cloud to effortlessly control your game, featuring a multiple-antenna design that prioritizes un-interrupted Wi-Fi for lower latency gaming. In fact, our testing showed a reduction in roundtrip latency when playing Luna Controller with Cloud Direct vs. Luna Controller via Bluetooth, with reductions of between 17 to 30 milliseconds among PC, Fire TV, and Mac. Because the Luna Controller connects directly to cloud servers, players can easily switch between screens — such as Fire TV to a mobile phone — without additional pairing or configuration changes.”
